Show Notes

Welcome to the Sentinel Speakeasy, the weekly podcast of the Sydney Sentinel.

In this episode, the Sentinel's editor Peter Hackney and features editor Travis de Jonk explore the top headlines of the week, including the heavy rainfall causing flooding and havoc in Sydney, the announcement of the Greens party candidates for the Inner West Sydney Council in the September NSW elections, and the controversy over the Sydney gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras standing down two of their board members without warning, allegedly due to  their involvement in radical queer activist collective Pride In Protest.

This week we feature two special guest interviews. First up we chat to singer, performer and professional speaker, Samantha Leith about her experience MC-ing the NSW March 4 Justice; then we interview Sydney performance artist, writer and activist Fiona McGregor about her exceptional new book Buried Not Dead – a collection of her acclaimed essays vividly documenting performance, queer and alternative cultures in Sydney.

The Sydney Sentinel is an independent, progressive new voice in Sydney's media landscape, offering a fresh, inclusive take on Sydney. Covering local arts, features, news and opinion, it also features dedicated queer, vegan and youth sections, in an online publication for the 2020s.

The Sentinel is free to read and access.
